When the old gods--those whom man had abandoned--returned to claim this world, we sought to destroy them. Instead, we poisoned our planet in a nuclear winter. Amid the corpses of nations and crises of faith, the gods laughed, subjugating us all. In this new world order, obedience falls first to these returned gods, then to the kings they have raised as their vessels. They demanded absolute obedience and service while the knowledge of technology were ripped from our memories.
Jaded with this world, the exorcist Germanus finds his heart, life and dedication of service, shattered on the final breath of a condemned girl.
Charlotte Last Dance a Rule of the Gods story eBook Jodhan Ford
Charlotte's Last Dance begins with rain and a windmill in the distance. It is the beginning of a dark, stormy tale about two men on a journey. We are not privy to the start of the journey, we are only shown a small trial that is an example of what lies behind them. We are also given an idea of the dangers ahead. This short introduction to a longer tale to come, is very well written, I felt as if I were there in the bitter, damp cold with the inquisitor and his horse and dog. He also carries a bundle that has a story of its own, a promise of the reason behind its being here, now. The land is dying, there is an illness that causes what seem to be zombie-like tendencies in the dead he has to fight.I knew the the main character at this moment only. This story is a chapter with enough descriptive, well chosen words to set me in the scene and wonder what was going to happen next. Jodhan Ford executed his task well. Even though I am not a zombie story follower, I cared that he lived through a fight with the walking dead. I wanted to know what the bundle was that he carried. I found out.
The introduction of the second character brings anticipation of more of the story. But not yet, first there is a chore to do. And they both want more to talk about than the ever-present rain on the trail.
Don Quixote came to mind more than once.
I complement the author on his very good choice of words, his well choreographed fight scene, and colorful descriptions.

Charlotte Last Dance a Rule of the Gods story eBook Jodhan Ford Reviews
This one was short but just long enough to keep you intrigued and wanting to learn more about this apocalyptic world. this teaser had me wondering what crimes against the Church did the inquisitor and his squire commit? what caused rampant demonic possessions and the resurrection of the dead? i know that the answers lie in Jodhan Ford's Rule of the Gods novel series.
